Picture a slow Sunday morning — the satisfying weight of this matte black cast iron pan in your hands, heat spreading evenly as your meal comes to life. Designed in 1999, the Sori Yanagi Nambu Tekki Deep Pan is where centuries of Japanese ironwork tradition meets the clean lines of modern design.

Crafted for Performance

Cast from a single thick piece of iron, this pan distributes heat quickly and evenly across the entire surface. Curved edges allow for easy pouring, and the clever removable fork-handle lets you lift the lid without burning your hands. The raised interior also cooks food lean by elevating it above oils and fat.

  • Material: Nambu Tekki cast iron with lacquer coating
  • Single-piece construction for superior heat distribution
  • Curved edges for easy pouring
  • Removable fork-handle for safe lid lifting
  • Raises food above oils and fat for leaner cooking
  • Compatible with gas, electric, and induction stovetops
  • Made in Niigata, Japan

Natural Variation

The lacquer coating may be uneven in parts, revealing a silver-brown patina underneath. This is not a defect — it is part of the pan’s natural beauty and character.

About Sori Yanagi

Sori Yanagi’s kitchen series began with cutlery in 1974 and has since grown to include pots, pans, kettles, colanders, bowls, knives and cast iron grills. Often listed alongside Charles & Ray Eames and Arne Jacobsen, Yanagi is credited as the father of Japanese modern design. His iconic Butterfly Stool (1956) is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
